I’m giving myself seven days to get it together.

I’ve been meaning to do this for months.  Maybe even years.

About five minutes from my office, why I haven’t done this already, I have no idea.  But it’s reached a point where I can’t take myself seriously anymore. 

(Steph, if you want to come you’re my #1.  I’ll buy and be a charming dinner / lunch date instead of being some jerk who slept through breakfast.)

The first album I ever bought for myself was “(What’s The Story) Morning Glory?” by Oasis.  It was in 1995, so I would have been 9 or 10 years old.    

Even today, thirteen years later, as a (junior) adult, I still think it’s an amazing album.  Seriously.  You’ve got:

-Don’t Look Back In Anger*

-Champagne Supernova

-(What’s the story) Morning Glory?

-She’s Electric (My personal favorite.  Try listen to it and not be happy.  Double dog dare you…)

Despite this seemingly early on-set of coolness, I quickly realized I was a pre-teen and bought Hanson’s Middle of Nowhere. 

But really, what was the first album you ever bought yourself? 

*the fact that I can now shred both of these songs on Rock Band just furthers my love for them.

Me: I’m so cold.

Co-worker / Jerk*: That’s what you get for being a woman!  

 I don’t know if it’s because of, or in spite of these charming exchanges - but either way, I really like my job.

(*He’s not really a jerk.  He’s actually very nice and calls me when I’m driving home through tornado-esque weather to make sure I’m ok.)

Every time I see a pest control truck, I think back to last semester when I was the project manager for a Yellow Pages campaign through the YPA Collegiate Advertising Competition, and our client was Terminix.  I’m reminded of the absurd amount of research that we all did in the making of our campaigns, and of the fact that I know waaay more about pest control than is neccesary in the life of a twenty two year old kid (junior) adult.  

This morning on the way to work, I drove by a Terminix truck and I realized that this very thing is what I like best about having majored in advertising: learning about all sorts of different things, all the time, even if it’s something as random as Terminix.

I’ve been hearing alot about this Montauk Monster, in blogs, and more recently via CNN, Newsday and more.  

I know people think it’s possibly some sort of guerrilla marketing tactic (for the devil?), or it could possibly be a turtle that’s seen better days, or maybe even the bringer of doom for mankind.  But it’s been a while now, and there’s been no concrete evidence of it being any of the aforementioned, so naturally, I fear that it is indeed a monster.

Not too long ago, stemming off of a conversation about Monster Hoodies, Jenn and I had a talk about our fears; her completely irrational fear of sharks, and subsequent dislike of shark week, and my more rational fear of monsters. 

Given this, I’m not going to be reading any more about Monty the Montauk Monster, because I prefer sleeping at night.  But please, at the earliest opportunity, contact me when there’s some official confirmation of it not being a monster / coming to eat me.

I went out for dinner last night (Temple Grill in Downtown New Haven. Nice place, sit outside if you can) and was talking to the girl I was with about books. 

(That’s sort of a go-to conversation for me by the way.)

When she asked what I’ve been reading this summer I rattled off a bunch of books, and ended each description with, “It was really good.” 

Since then, I’ve realized it’s not that I enjoy every book I read, I just enjoy reading.  Sure, I have my favorite books of all time, but I’ll also suggest whatever I’m reading at the time to anyone else.   You’d think, given that I’m a writer myself and read an awful lot, I’d be more picky.  But this is not the case.  

My new favorite book is generally whatever I just finished reading.

Maybe I’m just easy to please.  Maybe I just don’t put enough thought into it.  Even in high school I liked most of my assigned reading, and in college even more so.  Basically what I’m saying is don’t expect a stellar book recommendation from me, because I like everything.  I’ll gladly accept your book recommendations, I’m almost guaranteed to enjoy it, and I need something to read.

(And I really enjoyed dinner last night, too.)

At work on Friday, I asked a few “Would you rather” questions. 

Would you rather have the ability to fly or the ability to be invisible?

Would you rather be blind or deaf?

Would you rather have popcorn stuck in the back of your mouth, or have a fly keep buzzing around when you’re trying to sleep?

It’s now almost 1am, and I’ve spent the better part of 15 20 minutes hunting a fly that’s been buzzing around.  I’d like to retract my original answer to the question;  I’d rather the popcorn.

Sunday Afternoon - Somewhere in upstate New York.

Me: I don’t really like children.  Or animals.  Cats and dogs are ok, but farm creatures are kind of dirty.  Birds freak me out, I’m allergic to fish and…

Sean: Wow.  You should definitely stay in media then.

Me: …yeah.   Yeah, I should.

That’s what friends are for.

I came home from work today, worked out, showered then watched Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the movie. Because it was on TV, and I haven’t seen it in years.  (From 1990, it’s a cult classic.  You know the one.)

I think most people around my age have seen this movie.  The heroes in a half shell were quite popular back in my day.  Way back in the 90’s. 

Watching it as an adult, It’s a very different film.  In addition to the overall ridiculousness of it as a whole, there are some serious plot holes.

I have a couple questions:

1.  Is anyone else profoundly disturbed by the flirtation / sexual tension between April O’Neil, Adult Human Reporter and Raphael, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle?  It’s just wrong on so many levels.  And furthermore, why does Raphael have a borderline Italian accent?  

2.  What is Shredders’ motivation?  What’s up with The Foot Clan and the generalized hating of Splinter and our heroes?  

I think the movie was based on the comic books, which I didn’t read.  I read everything was I was little.  Everything except comic books - so please fill in the blanks for me if you know. 

COMPLETELY unrelated - some new detailsabout Jenny Lewis’s upcoming album have been released.  Most importantly, that it’s coming out in September.  Zooey Deschanel is featured on it, and she’ll be playing in New York in October.
